Will you put my hands away ?

It's extremely cliché. You probably took the most used and re-used love clichés, replaced the humans factors with flowers, and created your movie religiously following the path traced by those clichés. That's not a joke, maybe you didn't even realize it yourself. Plus, the animation is made only with tweens. Even when the blue flower tries to unroot himself, you didn't bother to draw him in a perspective, you just shrank him.
The color schemes is not bad at all though. You are trying (or maybe you did, without willing to) touched the "sensible string" of most people here fond of lovey-dovey stories. But it's not original, at all. Sorry to say this that roughly.
Though, work went into this, and you deserve credits for that ! So I am giving a 5 which is not SO FUCKING bad. :D

It's up to me turn down the night blights

That's it. When I saw the title of this in blue on the flash portal, I thought it was at least worth it. I then watched the movie, and thought it was not. But I didn't care, because you guy s had fun and this is very important, but now it got frontpage and a tremendous score of 4.39, I feel like calming the blitz a bit.

As much as it I don't feel like writing a really long review, I'll go straight to the point. What is the most bothering is obviously the lone concept of the movie. You can't just sacrifice any research of humour upon the altar of randomness. Well-managed randomness is funny, but here, you just put irrelevant elements the most you can. You are not even following a story-line, just sketches, and when an artists falls into compiling skteches instead of making a true story, it doesn't get any better.

As most fresh animators, you think that because it's really random and nonsensical, most newgrounders will laugh their juvenile ass off, which is, unfortunately for humanity, true. At this point, it's not even your fault. As I said earlier, you guys looked like you had an awesome time making this. But you didn't fully wholely care for inventivity, or originality. You put elephantesque internet memes such as the shoop-da-whoops (seriously...who still uses this joke ?) seriously, by seriously I mean that it was not intended to have a counter-culture feeling to it, but just the use of the meme as a 1st degree joke. If you still follow me.

I could talk about the relatively cheap animations, but I don't really care about that, and I am already tired of typing. Anyway, keep going guys, you may become great in the future.

Have a good anytime-of-the-day

The Pariah, the parrot and the delusion

I thought to myself "her first flash movie worked really nice, but won't this one feel like some kind of rip-off ? Or an effortless second movie to reproduce the first formula who was a success ?"

But I was wrong, because this is actually better than the first movie, there is a apprehensible concept, with great realisation and morphing, and good music as always, The eternal problem is the pre-loader. And still the abstruse meaning.

If you succeed to involve this bunny into a bigger plan, then it would be absolutely grand.

C-E-L-E-S-T-I-A-L

I have to say one thing first : nice. It's an original way to tell someone you love him/her. The flowers, chocolate etc. are for now outdated, flash movies for the win !

So, as I said, the idea is good, but the realisation is poor. For your husband it will be clearly good enough, and even exceptional. It's where it becomes hard to make a review. Wether one has to judge it from the lover's eye or an artist's perspective. And in the lover's eye, it's probably a very touching and cute movie. Props for that.

But artistically talking, there is big rooms for improvements. The lack of animation, or at least animation in the strict term, is frustrating. It's probably due to a run out of time I suppose. Another thing is the japan culture/oriented drawings. Not very original. Overall it's also quite cliché, but the song is nice.

Happy wedding anniversary I guess !

Are you ...also....frighteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I am not here to bring debate or argument as some racist/redneck/republican idiots did before me. Art needs to be judged out of political opinions, this is a problem that's been carried through millenia. Oh well.

First of all, I am very aware that by claiming "This is what birhters believe" you are not depicting accurate birthers' beliefs. You had to emphasize, hyperbole and other magnifying verbs for some people to find it funny. This is not bad, but this is close to propaganda. Obviously, birhters are wrong and (probably) idiots, but you missed the point by showing a manicheist, simplistic and oh-caricatural picture of the "planners" behind what birthers believe.

You didn't work much on the situation as well. Just a hut where people talk. This is too easy, too cheap. After that, you only relate on enormous "jokes" to feed the movie with humour, but I must admit you failed. The animation itself is not pleasant enough to appeal, the voice acting is the only good point, the voodoo "Hey" made me laugh, twice.

Now I'm gonna wash my armpits.

Burial - Untrue

I was about to bash this movie until I read :

"It's really just a physics exercise I was determined to finish."

Which is all that this flash is actually, but warning it is, you gain credibility. While you should work on your characters design with more dedication (and I mean it), the animation was smooth and fluid. When he riffles the hat-man, you did a great job to recreate the pieces of body tearing apart, which is gruesome really, and this is not often that I can watch a truly gruesome movie on Newgrounds. All these rebel teenagers making blood pissing from everywhere just rip pity from me. Oh well.

Also, incredibly good voice acting, did you take from somewhere or did you record it ? But there is a blatant lack of music, which makes it odd to watch at some parts, and even makes it look empty, it's not great to just hear the footsteps, the voices and the bullets. There is something missing, a little tune to make the whole homogenic.

But as much as it's meant to be a physics exercise, you succeed very well.

ZILLIS responds:

Thanks for the in-depth review. I agree with most of your points.
Yes, I recorded it.
This is supposed to look like a child drew it. If you watch it again, you'll notice both style and animation changes quite a bit through out. I couldn't help it. I just kept getting better - and I wasn't about to prolong the process by nit-picking the style. I've got much more up my sleeve than this. I just have to keep progressing.

September all over

Newgrounds needs more cartoons like this. Because they are funny. Because they are original. Because they don't really make any sense. Because classic mulsic is always good. Because hippos are blue and not yellow.

Holy bull, 467 reviews ? Boy, it's been ages since a movie got so many reviews so fast.

Let me tell you that I still have not put a rating as I start to write this review. I'll see how it comes. I wanted to talk about that last, but fuck it. You have ambition. I don't really know who I am talking to, since Godlimations only seemed to have animated it. Alright, you guys have ambition. Because even though the animation is far from being top notch, you still dare (uhuh) depicting big ideas and stories. Like on Vorago (now I know Josh didn't work on that). And I respect you for that. This is rare to see animators who dare here, whenever they treat a somewhat opinion-heavy idea, they turn it as a joke. You did not, you showed what you wanted, without irony.

Let's talk about the basics now. You put a language subtitles selection feature, which seems to be trendy these days. You might know I am refering to raitendo's crazy game. I wouldn't have talked about it actually if the translations were not that bad (sorry but they are). This is google-translated, the grammar is often wrong, some sentences don't make sense, and others didn't feel natural at all. This is only a feature, I would have chosen english but I wanted to see how you guys handled this. I finally came back to english because it distracted me from the main movie, but since it's only extra-icing, a bonus feature, this is not that important.

Okay, the story. You know, I had this feeling it would be crap when I saw the preview pic on the top 5 of the day and the name. "DARE" ? And a man putting his arm around girl ? Ole ! Clichés and photographies. But I wanted to see what the guy who made Vorago could do. Of course Josh made the story, which changes everythng and make them interesting, though an animator wouldn't work for a story he loathes.

I didn't really bother about the beginning. Not that it wasn't great, but it looks you like you wrapped it up fast to make a quick and efficient introduction to the main character's story to come. And suddenly this girl, with the self-explanator "I dare you to move". And well mister I thought it was going to be one of these ass-lame movies about love they do so bad here. Nice twist I think with the Tsunami. Not great but nice. I guess we were meant to find this emotional, call my heart a stone, I was not. But the intention was good.

I can't say much about his mother dying, and being dead afterwards indeed, it's not cliché, not bodaciously original too, it is an alright continuation, real, it can happen to anyone. Nice move. NOW, you would have thought someone was going to talk about that right. If I remember, godlimation is christian, or maybe not. That doesn't matter. I'd lie if I told you I wasn't surprised to see all of sudden this church, this bible, all the religious aspect appearing at once like that. And I lie if I told you it was not an easy twist. I admit that I am atheist, and more, I have a strong loathing towards religion. But I must be impartial. And I think that giving away a vision of live such as this is really well, I said that word enough times, daring. You are not afraid to show your opinions, in a society claiming itself liberated, there are more taboos than ever. People are evevn frightened to talk their ideas on a website ! It's crazy. Nice job about that.

Now I will finish by review all the other aspects. Something went bad, it's the random computer writings on the drawings. On the gravestone. Or when he has his revelation. You should have write it yourself to look real, it felt amateur and patchwork. But the texts appearing in the illumination work, because even though they go fast, you can read such words as "Lord" or "Father" which is the purpose. The animation is not crazy as I stated, but it's decent enough not to be distracted by (as one would if it were poor). The song though, not my taste. It's bad I'd say, but, I am too tired to review it.

So, I strongly hesitate between a 6 and a 7. 7 is the first good rating, 6 is the beginning of "bad". Oh come, 7.

Have a good day !

Godlimations responds:

Thanks for the extremely thorough review :) I read every word and I really liked it.

The subtitles were bad I admit. I just don't have the right friends to help me on that one. Thanks for not degrading points by considering it an additional feature.

After the mother dying, the message of conversion is a symbolic climax to search for something deeper in life, however you wish to interpret that.

Yeah I'm tired as well to give out even half the response you made. But just to inform you I appreciate your time and effort to suss the animation out.

Real Ketchup

I couldn't stay through the whole movie. Sorry, this was, in my opinion, a real bore. Not much happens. You use and re-use the same animations, same ideas and same drawins, in one flash movie. I know it's part of the will to fit a sample-song like the one your friend did, but it doesn't work well here. Plus the song itself is not exciting. Nowhere close to be DJ Shadow or The Avalanches, with whom you can actually make pretty slick and sick movies. I must presume this is not all your fault after all, if the matter for a movie is already thin.
But some parts were nice to see !

From Sinking

E realmente fiquei fascinado»
