White Winter Hymnal

Sometimes a long review can't capture the sheer excellence of a work. So just watch it.

Herbert Leonard is a connard

I usually love your stuff, you're original and you can transcend not-so-awesome graphics with awesome storylines et humour. But here, I think the main problem is that you delibaretely chose not to make a comedy cartoon. The idea is interesting, the guy-who-claims-he-takes-nothing-serio usly makes a serious flash. And it's not that great.

I felt more pity than empathy for any of the situations, like jerry's dad's complaint or the conversation between him and his mom. You're obviously trying and it has its moments, but overall, this feels out of place compared to the on-the-edge jokes of the previous episodes. And that's exactly my point, most the time, your cartoons are original but here, you're wallowing into melodramatic clichés that don't suit you a minute.

But at least we get to hear Jerry's voice as a reward.

the audience has spoken grizzlies

Discombobulating amalgam of Resident Evil and Where The Wild Things Are. As always, impressive animation, with a lot of slick elements, and a damn load of cuteness that makes me melt each time.

Good Mourning Captain

A marvelous animation about a subject that not everyone might be able to understand. I don't feel like writing a long review, so I'll just say : great.

Your movies are so underrated. Everything is so slick and stylized. Why do I even need a reason to give this short the highest score. And for all your flicks indeed. Burp.

thanks, i owe you a sake bomb.

Something's in the air

3 stars for the 3 movies that made me laugh. The steamboat willy part where vylent shamelessly rips off Don Hertzfeld's rejected cartoons (someone's saying homage), but it made me smile.
BoneOfChickan's flick. The unexpected tongue soup is quite mirth-heavy. Not to say it's FUCKING hilarious indeed.
And finally, Benjamin Ninechecker's movie is obviously full of cock jokes but I don't care. Who said english accent was not awesome ?

The rest is extremely poor. Here we go again with hulalaoo using dried out meme jokes and mindless gun fights. So-enormous-it's-shitty jokes like all the pinnochio's apparitions and mowgli (oh and alladin's too). Osaka's submission really dissapointed me, he who is usually original and talented seemed to have lost his mind into some kid-friendly banters. And god damnit, Peter Pan flying into a tree, how is that meant to be even funny ?! It's almost as dull as sonic running into an obstacle. The overall animation was mediocre.

Silent shout

I can't believe it took me until the rabbit to realize they were all dead. The main reason is that you found a subtle yet meaningful way to represent deaths at the beginning. You don't explicitly show people die and the relationship, or may I say the connection between all the characters is at first evasive. This is great. The music is half-gleeful and half-melancholic or at least ominous, which fulfill ones with a feeling of depraved happiness. This, is great as well.

As far as the animation goes though, it's not that exceptional. While you draw half-well (but the eyes are accurate), and animate small bits quite handsomely, the bigger whole is less remarkably done. The jumping rabbit is stuttering. Sometimes the camera movements are shaky (in a flash animation, yes I know it souds ludicrous).

Concerning the part that comes after the soldier (until then it's a blow) you become suddenly crude and raw about the death. You don't care about subtlety anymore. In the process, you lose the poetic aspect of the first half and the mystery that gives it all its charm. Not talking about the quixotic plane in the dog scene. At the end it just feels like a series of all kinds of different deaths you wanted to showcase. And it's not great.

Hope it helped, good day.

PapaLongLegs responds:

I felt that the storyline NEEDED to become a bit obvious towards the end, so as not to confuse a lot of my audience. Not a lot of people would be happy if nothing was explained and Id be faced with tons of question marks.

For an explanation to the dog scene please watch my previous flash, this is in the description which you should have read.

I sault on your decks

This is how a madness movie should be. Not what it should be, mind you, this one is far from perfect, but the concept is good. I am sick of all these crappy dull krinkels-like madness flicks in which dolls kill dolls. Cool.

The story is obviously cliché, I mean, you wanted it cliché, which is good since you introduced the mindfuck ending that breaks all the emotion silliness of the rest. It's just that you still didn't go too far and held into the classical gunfight universe of madness. It doesn't feel innovative enough. And the animation is not astounding either.

Dear Illwill,
I don't know who hacked your accounr and submitted this movie, but he had the right idea. There is actualy animation, researched humour, and understandable voices. AND no foamy or any of your usual characters. This guy made a good job indeed.

Apeshit

I'd have never thought I would say that, but that was pretty funny, with surprisingly good pixel animation. I usually don't like your songs and most of your movies, but this one stands apart. Good job.
